It You All Along edition by Ellen Lanor Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Decent plot. Some funny lines. Nice romantic sections
The story line is fine, but there are numerous grammatical errors.
I am surprised that a book would be published and put on with so many problems in spelling and tense.
There were a few noteworthy issues I had with this story. *Slight spoilers ahead* The most irritating being the way social services was discussed. No one believes that the agencies that oversee the foster care system are without complex issues, but to demonize the effort and devotion that countless individuals put forward to create a better future for children is despicable. What annoyed me the most regarding the position on the foster care system is that the main character was wholeheartedly "against the child going to a stranger" when she was also a stranger to him, who decided on permanent placement before even saying two words to the child. The main character Cheryl was certainly not my cup of tea. She acted impulsively, couldn't figure out if she was a strong independent woman or a bitter lonely broad with a chip on her shoulder. The romantic relationship was lacking substance and the emotions developed despite overwhelming outward displays of hatred had me scratching my head wondering if I missed something. The author even admitted to such when Cheryl began to remark to herself that Peter fulfilled some need (though she didn't know how). I know how she doesn't know, it's because they never developed anything similar to a real relationship. Peter was so rude to this woman and only because he couldn't help being attracted to her at first sight?? At least let her be a b$%%$ to him or something but no, it's merely that he felt such an automatic attraction to her that he felt he should insult her at every chance he got. BUT then you feel so guilty of betraying your best friend when the opportunity later arises for you to begin a romantic relationship with said woman. Were you lost there, because I was. And that's when things started to become redundant. I was seriously cringing at the conversations between siblings (with reversed roles and annoying banter), spouses (where the single unattached friend was the mature voice of reason for the married man) and "friends". Too unrealistic. Cheryl was also insecure and I did not care much for her throughout the story. Too belittle and degrade other women because you are bitter that you have small breasts does not establish a good rapport with the female readers. It merely reinforces the beliefs that women with small breast feel inferior to those more endowed in the same way men attempt to compensate for a lack thereof. Why look down on a group of women with a better body than yours (given that you are proud that you take care of your figure and work out often), simply because they have a better body than yours? I began to wonder if the book was simply translated from another language because there were editing and grammar mistakes on every other page. And they were bad enough that they impacted the story and made it hard for me to follow along. A few times I was not sure who was speaking and even after re-reading certain passages I was still confused. If you're looking for a romance novel with complex relationships and somewhat likeable main characters then skip this.
Because the story wasn't completely predictable, I would say it's an ok drama novel with a bit of romance (and by romance I mean sex not meaningful relationships). It sucks that it seems to be increasingly difficult to find a good contemporary romance.
FANTASTIC!!!
Great story. Would recommend.
