Filled with passion, humor, and rich historical detail, this is a wonderful novella from an author whose work has been called “as sexy and exciting as the Highland hills themselves” (Elizabeth Hoyt, USA Today–bestselling author).

Well, I must confess that I am a huge Mary Wine fan. She writes stories with amazingly complex characters, interesting conflicts, and very sexy love scenes- and this book has all those elements. After the death of his first wife, Lord Monroe must marry again to keep his clan safe, but he is sick of having men trying to sell their daughters and sisters to him. When Monroe has given up all hope, a lord gives him a solution- meet his sister and hand-fast with her if they get along. To finally be given a choice again, Monroe takes this challenge. And this is a challenge because Elspeth is everything but a meek noble girl who is afraid to speak her mind. She is a brassy Scottish heroine that I instantly loved. I only wish the story was longer so I could see what trouble she could get into next. This was a great little story (got through it in about 1 to 2 hours) and would highly recommend it.Product details

Stealing the Bride edition by Mary Wine Romance eBooks Reviews
Talented author delivered a good plot with surprisingly complex characters in a short story. Both main characters as well as the brother, antagonist, (not really villain), his sister's, and the captain were all clever and engaging. Lots of sex; good effect or depending upon taste.
Good fast read. I have a like/hate relationships with her books. They are general good and keep my attention, I mostly like the way she writes, but she does things that drive me crazy. Can't complain much about this book as it wasn't long enough for her to have things that do not make sense. However I am sick of her having to say it is an X chair or and X framed chair in all of her stories. She does tend to use the same sex stuff over in her books as well. All in all it was a decent story. I liked Monroe even though I did not care for his name. Doesn't sound like a Scot's name, but more like an English name. She still needs to do a better job of writing when she has the heroine arguing with the hero. A lot of times it just comes off as bitchy or stupid. It just doesn't flow right. Elspeth does a little of that, but not much which is because the story is so short. She is a pretty likable. Sometimes she does make her heroine a little too tuff or strong. I see some of this in her. Then she turned around and had her crying for no reason. With no explanation why. So that was one little thing that she just throws in and doesn't explain so it doesn't make sense.
Sex content high.
I found this book delightful. Two loves at first sight. Had adventure and humor. He was gallant, she was resisting and defiant at first. But once she sorted out her feelings. She was his. A good book to curl up for the boring weekend. Enjoy.
The story was silly. I was glad when it finally ended. The punishment by the priest was the dumbest thing I ever read.
Monroe must marry again. He is sick and tired of being pressed by mothers and other lairds. He is offered a hand fast with Elspeth. Monroe wants a biddable wife and to get on with his life. Elspeth is full of vinegar and sass. The book is a typical Mary Wine novel. Strong characters full of sex, sass and starch. Perfect for reading when waiting for the gym to clear out.
The story of Elspeth and Hayden was my first Highlander ebook. Perhaps I shouldn't have started with a novella. There is a lot to learn in these types of stories - clans, lairds, church rules, what is handfasting, border fights, etc. I enjoyed it all, but it moved along quickly. Hayden was super sexy and I liked Elspeth's sassy personality.
Mary Wine can write action scenes very well. That is for sure.
The story kind of took an odd turn with the "stealing the bride" section. It wasn't developed fully and the reader is moved past this quickly. Odd. If that is the title of the book I expect it to be more significant. And did Pherson have a peep hole into his sisters' bathroom. Eeew.
I will read more by Ms. Wine. I think a full novel will show me just how great this sub genre can be.
Ms. Wine wrote a cute short story/novella, however it lacked so much in the ending I don't know where to begin. The story started out just fine and was progressing along nicely and then somewhere in the middle it started to fizzle out. There was plenty of passion and lust, some humor, a bad guy of sorts, and fairly interesting main characters. It fell flat at the end. It just ended. No build up toward the end, no wedding to celebrate, nothing. It just ended rather abruptly. I like Ms. Wine's books very much, I just hate her endings and this one was the worst. Which is too bad for the storyline was a good one it just didn't develop enough for me. However, if your interested in a short story with a lot of sex and a somewhat happy ending this is the book for you. Happy reading!
